Ingredients

4 T. baking soda

4 T. kosher salt

4 T. citric acid

Vinegar

Dish Soap

Description

This doesn’t work as well as commercial dish detergent on dishes, but it’s good enough to get the job done until you can purchase more if you really don’t like washing dishes by hand.

What this works best for is cleaning the dishwasher itself and as the pre-wash with dishes.

Directions

Mix all the dry ingredients.

Dishes:
Put 1 drop of dish soap in the dispenser, then 2 tablespoons of the powder. Put 1-2 tablespoons of the powder in the pre-wash cup (*1).

For use in pre-wash only, put 1-2 T. powder in the pre-wash cup and put your regular detergent in the main cup.

Dishwasher:
If needed, remove the filter and spin arm from the bottom, use drain cleaner on the drain, then run the dishwasher empty.

Clean the filter and spin arm and return them.
Clean the door and seals with vinegar.

Fill dispenser completely with the powder. Sprinkle some into the bottom of the dishwasher and run empty or with very few dishes, to make sure the water is mostly hitting the inside of the dishwasher itself.
Put any remaining powder in the pre-wash cup with dishes until you've used it up.

Notes

*You can also just sprinkle the powder around in the bottom of the dishwasher if you don't have a pre-wash cup.

*A dishwasher ideally should be cleaned at least once a month.
